About me

My name is Venetia and I'm a self-exiled Greek, "mentally married" to a Mexican and living in London. Apart from the dreary weather, this city is one of the most exciting capitals in the world, and I couldn't imagine of a more diverse place to live (and eat) in. Coming from Greece, where the most you can get in the way of exotic cuisines is... Italian, I find myself constantly baffled with the amazing variety of choice of where to eat, what to eat, and what to never try a second time.

I have been living in the UK since 2001, and in London since 2006, and although I can't say that I like British food much, I'm still constantly amazed at the fantastic food you can find in this country, especially with the variety of cuisines in London, this city of "mostly foreigners" who have brought their cultures and food with them.

I love cooking, and especially making sweets, and I will share recipes of all kinds in this blog. I take inspiration from everywhere and along with each recipe I will always quote its source, as I think that credit should always go to the original creator who inspired me to make each dish.

Why "dulcis in fundo"?

The name of this blog was the result of a competition in facebook. I invited all my friends and colleagues to suggest ideas for a name, bribing them with the prospect of a culinary gift. The trophy (some muscovado truffles from Paul A. Young's wonderful book Adventures with chocolate) went to my Italian friend Anna who came up with the idea of dulcis in fundo, a Latin phrase which literally means "the sweets come at the end" but is actually more commonly translated as "and to top it all" or "last but not least". Being someone who works with languages myself, I found the pun/double meaning perfectly suitable for what I wanted to blog about... All food is great, but what comes at the end is always the best...
